The service centre that gives steel a new start thanks to solar energy
The Paderno Dugnano facility is one of ILVA’s service centres in Northern Italy, strategically located a few kilometres outside Milan. In service since the ’90s, the site covers 74,000 m2, of which 36,000 m2 occupied by three sheds.
Paderno is a centre of excellence in several respects, and in terms of workplace safety and sustainability in particular.
On the workplace safety front, ILVA has recently introduced a number of important measures, including new procedures for risk assessment and prevention and technical solutions and corrective action for accident prevention that have appreciably improved the plant’s safety performance.
Lastly, Paderno is also notable for its high environmental sustainability performance. A 600 KW solar power system capable of generating 40% of the site’s daily energy requirement was installed on the shed roofs, enabling the facility to be energetically self sufficient for 150 days a year.
